Wallpapers and Fabrics for homes from 1940 to
1950
For homes of the Forties
Interior design of the 1940's took its lead from
the late 1930's. Colours were generally slightly muted , with
the pinks, greens and blues all having a slightly grey hue. Beige
was a popular colour, in many combinations of textured wallpapers,
often touched or wiped with pale pink and green washes.
Floral designs were used frequently, printed in stylized (but
not abstract) patterns. More naturalistic floral sprig patterns
were also popular, often combined with an intertwined ribbon.
Small, regular, background patterns of lines or dots proved
an effective design background for bright nosegays of flowers,
with daisies and rosebuds being favourite choices.
