Wallpapers for homes from 1840 to 1880
For Early Victorian homes, including Gothic and Italianate

Gothic house built 1862

Homes of this period were often seen as being the first civilized influence in their area when they were built. A fineness of design was common in these homes, often exemplified by very delicate woodwork.

Wallpapers in this period were generally printed in an overall repeating design, with a decorative
element framed in a basic diamond-shaped motif. This repeating motif could be formed of either a hard edged geometric pattern, or a softer floral version..
