Victorian Tiles - Introduction

Victorian Tiles achieved their maximum popularity from 1880 to 1901. The primarily British tile industry sent their tiles world-wide, to Canada, the United States and as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

Prominent artists were commissioned to design tiles, and designs were often planned to allow clever patterning when several tiles were used together. Designs were usually applied with a transfer printing technique.

Tile patterns varied from the popular floral motifs to the more aesthetic Anglo-Japanese designs. Fireplace sets were made to enhance coal-burning cast-iron fireplaces.

Our selection of Victorian tiles are all reproductions of original Victorian designs.
