Tube-Lined Art Nouveau Tiles All 3/8" tiles sets have limited stock. Please check for availablity
The art of tube-lining tiles is highly specialized. Rather like
icing a cake, the design is piped on to the flat tile in liquid
clay, then the glazes are poured into the areas of the tile that
are created behind the shallow "dams" formed by the
tube-lined decoration. Expensive even in 1900, owing to the many
possibilities of error in manufacture, the attractive appearance
of these tiles gave rise to the moulded
art nouveau tiles as a less expensive alternative to achieve
a similar result in a rich-looking tile.
These tiles are still hand lined in England, and coordinate
with our range of thicker plain tiles.
All tiles have a high-gloss finish which is not plainly visible in the images below.
