These wonderful Art Nouveau tiles are made exactly as they would
have been in 1910. The tiles have deep and lustrous hand-painted,
high-gloss glazes laid on over a moulded base tile. The 6"
x 6" tiles are 1/4" thick, and have a slightly irregular
outside edge. The patterns are taken from English tiles of the
period, which were widely distributed around the world at the
time, finding their way to places as diverse as the United States,
Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
These tiles are especially useful for fireplace facings, and
accent tiles in kitchens and bathrooms. They are not suitable
for floor tiles because of the raised moulded pattern, though
they have been used on fireplace hearths. These tiles are vitrified
so they may be used outdoors.
Please note: As in the antique originals, small variations
in colour; small areas of glaze bleeding; and a tendency for
the glazes to "crackle" are indicative of the traditional
hand-made quality of the tile, and are not considered defects.
All tiles have a high-gloss finish which is not plainly
visible in the images below.

can be long sweeping "cracks"; fine, overall "crackling";
or anything in between. The amount of "crackle"
depends on the materials in the different glazes. The degree
of "crackling" is visible in the enlargement images
of the tiles.
